MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University football team will hit the field this season as the No. 23 team in the nation with D3football.com announcing its preseason poll.
Salisbury picked up 82 points in the ranking, sitting six points clear of No. 24 Huntingdon College.
Defending national champion University of Mount Union is the preseason No. 1, earning 18 first-place votes and 613 points. Three other teams earned first-place votes, with Linfield College garnering three and 583 points for No. 2 in the poll, followed by University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (three first-place votes and 574 points), University of St. Thomas (one first-place vote and 536 points), and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (523 points) to round out the top five.
The Sea Gulls went 7-3 in 2015, claiming the New Jersey Athletic Conference championship in its first year in the league, while qualifying for the NCAA tournament for the 10th time in program history.
Salisbury kicks off the 2016 season on Friday, September 2, hosting Albright College at Sea Gull Stadium, with the game slated for 7 p.m.
