INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 21 Salisbury University football team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III tournament with its 20-point comeback win over Frostburg State University on Saturday, earning the New Jersey Athletic Conference's automatic qualifier to the national tournament.
The Sea Gulls found out their first-round opponent for the national tournament during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday. Salisbury will travel to the State University of New York at Cortland to begin its run in the national tournament. The contest will take place on Saturday, November 21 at 12 p.m.
The Sea Gulls and Red Dragons have only faced off once before, in the 1983 season, with Salisbury coming out with a 25-0 victory.
The NCAA berth marks the first time since the 2012 season that the Sea Gulls will make an appearance in the national tournament, when Salisbury advanced to the second round after a 17-9 first-round win over Rowan University. This is the 10th time that Salisbury has made an NCAA tournament appearance.
The winner of the game will take on the winner of another first-round matchup between No. 2 Linfield College and No. 23 Whitworth University in the second round. The Sea Gulls have never matched up with either potential second-round opponent.
