PITMAN, N.J. - The No. 21 Salisbury University football team punched its ticket to the 2015 NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday with its 28-27 victory over Frostburg State University, and freshman Shane Gaines was named New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season for his efforts in the win, the league announced on Sunday.
Gaines was a part of a defensive unit that held the Bobcats to two punts and zero points in the fourth quarter, allowing the Salisbury offense to opportunity to make a 20-point comeback in the game for the win. He finished the contest with six total tackles, one force fumble, and one pass break up.
Gaines has enjoyed a strong freshman campaign for the Sea Gulls, ranking third on the team with 54 tackles. He also ranks second with seven pass breakups, while adding one interception.
Salisbury now looks to the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, November 15 to find out its first-round opponent. The first round of games will take place next Saturday, November 21. The selection show is set for 6 p.m. Log on to www.suseagulls.com for more information as it becomes available.
