GREENWOOD, Ind. – In his first season as the starting punter for the Salisbury University football team, sophomore Timothy Steindl was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America as an Academic All-District athlete for District 2, the organization announced on Thursday.
Steindl is a history major and carries a 3.90 grade-point average. He has played in all seven games for the Sea Gulls this season, averaging 37.4 yards per punt for 23 total punts. Steindl has booted a long of 56 yards and has put four kicks inside opponents' 20-yard lines.
To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 GPA and be a starter or key reserve on her team. Being named to the All-District team, Steindl is now eligible to be selected as an Academic All-American; that team will be announced later in November.
Salisbury is back in action on Saturday, November 7 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action against No. 3 Wesley College in Dover, Delaware; the opening kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
