PITMAN, N.J. - For the second-straight week and the third time this season, freshman Shane Gaines of the Salisbury University football team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Sunday.
Gaines led the Salisbury defense with 12 tackles, including five solo stops, in the team's loss to Christopher Newport University on Saturday. He now ranks third on the team with 43 total tackles for the season, while adding one interception and five pass breakups.
He has previously won the award on October 11 and October 25.
Salisbury next travels to No. 4 Wesley College in NJAC play on Saturday, November 7; the opening kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
