MINNEAPOLIS – Following the Salisbury University football team's record breaking game against William Paterson University this past Saturday, senior Jerome Johnson was named to D3football.com's Team of the Week.
This is Johnson's first honor by the website and the Sea Gulls' second team member to receive the award this year. Johnson also was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts Saturday.
Johnson aided the Sea Gulls in breaking the team's single-game rushing record of 651 yards by chipping in 204 yards of his own. This was a career high for the senior who also added two touchdowns to his season total which is now at six. He ran eight times, with seven going for 10 or more yards, and a long of 51 yards. Johnson also stretched out two separate 36-yard runs, including one of his touchdowns, along with rushes of 22 and 21 yards.
The 204-yard total was the highest individual single-game total for a Sea Gull since Joe Benedetti ran for 216 yards against Christopher Newport University on September 1, 2012.
Salisbury next heads to NJAC foe Kean University on Saturday, October 24. Opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
