ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its football awards Monday afternoon and Salisbury University freshman Alex Potocko was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.
The Clarksville, Maryland native was called on to score points for the Sea Gulls for the first time in 2014 and came through with flying colors, scoring 10 of Salisbury's 40 points in a 40-28 win over State University of New York at Brockport on Saturday.
Potocko had a total of eight kickoffs, for an average of 56 yards with one touchback. He made a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter to give Salisbury a two-possession lead, and kicked again from 33 yards in the second quarter. The 37-yarder is the longest Sea Gull field goal in over two years.
The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, November 15, as the travel to Frostburg State University at 1 p.m.
