ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its football awards on Monday afternoon and Salisbury University junior John Dunbar was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week.
Dunbar led the Sea Gull offense to a 37-34 overtime victory at No. 6 St. John Fisher College on Saturday, going for career highs in both rushing and passing.
The Point Pleasant, New Jersey native had 30 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-tying score from 3 yards out with 18 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime.
Dunbar also completed a career-best 10 passes on 14 attempts (which tied a career high), for 149 yards. On the game-tying drive, Dunbar connected on his two pass attempts, one of which converted a third-and-11 play into a first down.
Dunbar and the football team return home this Saturday, October 11, taking on Utica College at Sea Gull Stadium; the contest is scheduled to kickoff at noon.
