LEESBURG, Va. – The first official football game is still weeks away, but the awards have started to roll in for Salisbury University players as senior Kyle Hamby has been named a Beyond Sports Network Preseason All-American.
Hamby, who is one of the top punters in the nation, was selected to the third team. In 2013, the Laurel, Maryland native ranked 11th in the nation and led the Empire 8 Athletic Conference with a 41.1 yard average per punt. Of his 44 boots last year, 17 came down inside the 20-yard line.
He enters the season with the second-highest career average among active players, with a 40.4 average over 134 kicks in his three years in maroon and gold.
Hamby has gathered awards throughout his career, having been named the Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Year following the 2012 and 2013 seasons and has been named to the All-Empire 8 First Team each of the past two seasons. Hamby has claimed three Empire 8 Player of the Week honors and was named to the D3football.com All-East Region First Team last year.
