MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University football team rose to No. 6 in the d3football.com top 25 poll after the first week of the season, the Website announced on Sunday.
Salisbury (1-0) received 487 points in the poll after defeating Christopher Newport University, 40-16, on the road Saturday. The Sea Gulls finished ahead of the University of St. Thomas (473), Wabash College (426), St. John Fisher College (420) and Wheaton (Ill.) College (323) in the top 10.
Defending national champion, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (18), and the University of Mount University (seven) split first-place votes and garnered 618 and 607 points, respectively, to take the top-two spots in the poll.
SU hosts third-ranked Wesley College Saturday, Sept. 8, at Sea Gull Stadium at 6 p.m. The Wolverines defeated East Texas Baptist College, 34-14, and earned 569 points in the poll.
