CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Salisbury University football team is up to No. 3 in the sixth ECAC Division III Lambert Meadowlands football poll, presented by FieldTurf Tarkett, the organization announced Monday.
SU (9-1, 7-0 Empire 8) defeated Frostburg State University, 49-7, Saturday in the 13th annual Regents Cup game to win the Empire 8 title. The victory gave the Sea Gulls their first conference crown since winning back-to-back Atlantic Central Football Conference championships in 2004 and 2005.
Eight teams appearing in this week's poll are part of the NCAA Division III football tournament, including the top six teams in the poll as well as two others who are receiving votes.
The Sea Gulls earned 236 points in the poll, ahead of No. 4 Johns Hopkins University (9-1) with 228 points. Wesley College (9-1) remained in the top spot, garnering 276 points.
SU hosts Western New England University in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday at noon.
