Kelly, Hudson named ECAC Southwest Players of the Week
CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Salisbury University junior quarterback Sean Kelly (Fallston, Md.) and senior defensive back Brandon Hudson (Delmar, Md.) have each collected more accolades. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its top players of the week on Tuesday, with Kelly garnering Offensive Player of the Week honors and Hudson Defensive Player of the Week honors in the ECAC's Southwest region.
Each played a key role in Saturday's 38-20 win against St. John Fisher College at Sea Gull Stadium. Kelly put up career-high totals in completions (10), touchdown passes (two) and passing yards (144), not to mention 13 carries for 46 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, which put Salisbury ahead 10-6, sparking a 28-0 run by the Gulls.
Hudson was all over the field. Along with returning a pair of kickoffs for 35 yards, the Sussex Tech graduate also intercepted three passes, the biggest of which was a momentum-changing pick at the end of the first half. Hudson intercepted a Tim Bailey pass in the end zone with less than 20 seconds remaining in the second quarter to keep the Gulls down 6-3 at halftime, allowing Kelly's third quarter touchdown run to give Salisbury the lead. Along with his three interceptions, Hudson also broke up a pair of Bailey passes with big hits on potential Cardinal receivers.
The Sea Gulls (2-2) will look to earn another win Saturday afternoon when they welcome The Apprentice School to Sea Gull Stadium for the first Atlantic Central Football Conference game of the season.
