Salisbury's Westbrook returns to Washington practice squad
ASHBURN, Va. - The Washington Redskins signed
former Salisbury University All-American Byron Westbrook to the
practice squad for a second consecutive year over the weekend.
Westbrook was cut on Saturday as the Redskins narrowed their roster
down to 53. The next day the Redskins signed Westbrook to the
practice squad.
Westbrook played in four of Washington's five preseason
games in August. The cornerback concluded the preseason with seven
tackles and one pass deflection on defense. Westbrook was also busy
with his time on special teams. He returned three kickoffs for 67
yards and fielded six punt returns for 20 yards. His best
performance came against the Buffalo Bills on August 9 when he made
three tackles and return a kickoff and punt for a combined 31
yards.
Westbrook is SU's all-time leader in interceptions with 18. The
Ft. Washington, Md., native attended DeMatha High School in Prince
Georges County. Westbrook's older brother Brian is an All-Pro
running back for the Philadelphia Eagles.
