Salisbury falls 11 spots in D3football.com poll to No. 17

MINNEAPOLIS - The Salisbury University football team dropped to No. 17 in the D3football.com rankings released Monday after the Sea Gulls lost to Delaware Valley College, 41-27, on Saturday afternoon. Salisbury (3-1) dropped 11 spots in the poll as the Sea Gulls suffered their first loss of the season.

The Aggies (2-1), who were unranked last week, jumped to No. 16 in the poll. DVC registered 487 yards of total offense (297 passing, 190 rushing) to halt the maroon and gold's three-game winning streak. The Aggies made the largest leap of any unranked teams into the top 25.

The Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) had one other member in the polls in Wesley College, who stayed at the No. 12 spot in the rankings. The Wolverines had a bye week.

The top five teams remained the same as Mount Union tallied 621 points and 21 first-place votes. No. 2 UW-Whitewater, the defending national champions, earned the other four first-place votes. Mary Hardin-Baylor was No. 3 (580 points) followed by No. 4 Capital and No. 5 Muhlenberg.

The D3football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country and is published weekly.

The second American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III poll will be released later this week.

Salisbury will begin its ACFC schedule next Saturday, October 4, on the road against the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va., at 1:30 p.m.
