Barnes honored as ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for Southwest Region

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its players of the week and Salisbury University senior linebacker Matt Barnes was named the Division III Southwest Region Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 28.

Earlier in the week, Barnes was named the Atlantic Central Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The Ijamsville, Md. native had a game-high 14 tackles in last weekend's 41-27 loss to Delaware Valley College. Barnes had five tackles in the fourth quarter, including four in the Aggies' last scoring drive.

This is the second ECAC Player of the Week honor for the Sea Gulls, as senior defensive lineman Paul Cynewski was named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 22.

Salisbury will begin its Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) schedule Saturday, October 4, on the road against the Apprentice School in Newport News, Va., at 1:30 p.m.
