MINNEAPOLIS - A third
preseason Division III college football poll has the Salisbury
University Sea Gulls ranked in the top 20. The latest poll released
by D3football.com on Tuesday has the Gulls ranked No. 12.
Salisbury enters the '08 campaign with 16 starters returning
from last season's 9-2 team that made it to the NCAA tournament.
The maroon and gold will look for a repeat performance in 2008 with
a chance to make back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances since
1986. Salisbury has six NCAA appearances in the program's 36-year
history.
Two opponents the Sea Gulls will face this season were ranked in
the D3football.com poll while three other SU opponents
received votes.
Atlantic Central Football Conference rival Wesley College
received one first-place vote and was selected third overall just
missing the No. 2 spot by 10 points behind defending national
champion UW-Whitewater. Salisbury and Wesley will renew the Route
13 rivalry on November 1 in Sea Gull Stadium at 1 p.m. A new
opponent for the Gulls in '08 is St. John Fisher. The two schools
will meet for the first-time in program history on October 11 at
Noon in Rochester, N.Y. The Cardinals went 11-2 last season and are
ranked No. 10 in the preseason.
The other SU opponents that received votes in the preseason poll
include Albright College, Christopher Newport University and
Delaware Valley College. SU opens the season on the road against
Albright (September 6) followed two weeks later with a home contest
against CNU (September 20) then a road trip to DVC (September 27).
