Chandler selected to his third All-American team
MINNEAPOLIS - Salisbury University senior defensive end Jarrell Chandler was named to his third All-American team this season as he landed on the D3football.com All-American First Team announced on Saturday by the Web site before Stagg Bowl XXXVI.
In the past week, Chandler has been named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-American First Team and the Associated Press Little All-American Second Team. This is the second straight year Chandler has been selected to a D3football.com All-American team. Last season, Chandler was selected to the second team.
Salisbury has had only two players earn first team honors from D3football.com since the Web site began naming All-American teams in 1999. The other Sea Gull to receive this honor is Brad DeHaven (Defense) in 2004. In total, there have been seven Sea Gulls named All-American by D3football.com.
Chandler had an outstanding year for the Sea Gulls (9-2), the 2008
ECAC Southwest Bowl Champions. The 2008 All-South Region first team
selection ranks fourth in the nation for tackles for loss average
per game (2.15) and 15th in the nation for sacks per game (0.95).
The Salisbury, Md., product is ranked sixth in the Atlantic Central
Football Conference (ACFC) in tackles (64) and tackles per game
(6.40). While being honored to the 2008 All-ACFC first team, he was
tied for first in sacks (9.5). Chandler also leads the ACFC in
tackles for loss average per game and is second in tackle for loss
yards (90).
Chandler ends his career with 155 tackles in 31 games over three seasons. He leaves SU with 23 sacks for a total loss of 157 yards. He forced four fumbles, recovered two fumbles, made three blocks, one interception and had 53.5 tackles for a loss of 244 yards.
