WACO, Texas - The Salisbury
University football team is ranked No. 21 in the latest American
Football Coaches Association (AFCA) poll. Salisbury moved up two
spots after a 55-14 rout of in-state rival Frostburg State
University last Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis,
Md.
The Sea Gulls (8-2) are joined by Atlantic Central Football
Conference (ACFC) rival Wesley College as the only two teams in the
conference to be ranked in the poll. The No. 10 Wolverines (8-1)
cracked the top 10 this week, up two spots, after they defeated
Gallaudet, 55-7.
The Sea Gulls collected 155 points and are sandwiched between
No. 20 Franklin College (9-1) and No. 22 Christopher Newport
University (8-1).
Mount Union continues to hold down the No. 1 spot as they have
all season. The Purple Raiders received 39 of 40 first-place votes
again this week after a 49-0 shutout of Marietta on Saturday. North
Central (Ill.) moves up one spot to No. 2 after a 35-28 win over
Elmhurst. Millsaps is up two to No. 3 following the Majors' 31-14
win over Birmingham-Southern. Mary Hardin-Baylor is up three to No.
4 after a 42-20 win over Sul Ross State. Defending national
champion Wisconsin-Whitewater received the remaining first-place
vote and climbs three spots to No. 5 after a 52-13 win over
Wisconsin-Platteville.
Salisbury will next turn its attention to the 2008 Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southwest Bowl
Championship game in Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday, November 22. SU
will face Moravian College (8-2) at Noon.
