Fisher collects ACFC Offensive Player of the Week honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) named its players of the week for October 27 and Salisbury University senior superback Shelby Fisher was named Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in Salisbury's 63-0 victory over Becker College last Saturday.

The Baltimore, Md., native rushed for a career-high 186 yards on 21 carries (8.9 yards per carry).  Fisher scored his team leading 13th touchdown this season on a 5-yard run early in the second quarter. The senior also caught one pass for 18 yards which gave him 204 all-purpose yards on the day. Fisher now has 126 carries and 794 rushing yards for the season.

Fisher was joined by three Wesley College players in Larry Beavers (Special Teams Player of the Week), Jeremiah Santiago (Defensive) and Mike Aseidu (Rookie).

This is the first ACFC award for Fisher this season. For Salisbury, this is the seventh week in a row a Sea Gull has earned an ACFC award. Ronnie Curley (Offensive Player of the Week) and Tommy Kowalick (Rookie of the Week) received the honor for October 20. Bryan Woolson was named Offensive Player of the Week for October 13. Randal Smedley was named Rookie of the Week for October 6. Matt Barnes was named the Defensive Player of the Week for September 28. Paul Cynewski received the same honor for September 22 while Curley (Offense) and Smedley (Rookie) earned honors for September 15.

Salisbury (7-1, 1-0 ACFC) will next turn its attention to the ACFC showdown with Wesley College (5-1, 2-0 ACFC) on Saturday, November 1, in Sea Gull Stadium. The annual Route 13 rivalry game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
