SU breaks into latest football polls

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University football team, fresh off a 35-21 win over then No. 20 Christopher Newport University, cracked the D3football.com Top 25 poll for the first-time since the 2005 season as the Sea Gulls are ranked No. 25.

The last time Salisbury was ranked in the D3football.com poll was in Week Eight of the 2005 season when they sat at No. 17. SU entered the '05 campaign ranked No. 9 in the same poll.

For the second consecutive week the maroon and gold sit at No. 20 in the Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette. Salisbury and Wesley are the only two ACFC schools ranked in both polls as the Wolverines are No. 7 in the D3football.com poll and No. 14 in Don Hansen's poll.

Salisbury (3-0) ranks as one of the most potent offenses in the Atlantic Central Football Conference as they rank first in the ACFC in scoring (39 points a game) and rushing (306 yards a game). The defense has been just as stout as they allow only 15.9 points a game and have totaled a conference-leading 15 sacks through the first three games of the season.

The Sea Gulls' next game is on Saturday, September 22, as they host Delaware Valley College in a rematch of last season's ECAC South Atlantic Bowl Championship. The game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Sea Gulls Stadium.
