Sea Gulls ranked No. 18 in first AFCA poll

WACO, Texas - The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) released its first Top 25 poll of the 2007 season and Salisbury University received 276 points to place them No. 18 nationally.

The AFCA is comprised of 40 coaches, which includes SU coach Sherman Wood. The top-ranked Mount Union Purple Raiders received 39 first-place votes and No. 2 Mary Hardin Baylor received one.

Salisbury (3-0) and Wesley are the only two Atlantic Central Football Conference schools ranked as the Wolverines are ranked No. 7. The ACFC is one of six conferences to have multiple teams ranked. The Ohio Conference has the most of any league in the nation with four teams ranked.

The Sea Gulls have made moves in all three Division III polls this week as they are ranked No. 25 by D3football.com and No. 20 by Don Hansen's National Weekly Gazette. SU is ranked for the first time since Week Eight of the 2005 season when they were No. 17.

The Sea Gulls will look to continue on their early season success as they host Delaware Valley College on Saturday, September 22, at 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
