Salisbury picked No. 2 in ACFC preseason poll
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic Central
Football Conference released its 2007 preseason coaches poll and
Salisbury University was picked to finish second in the five-team
conference. The Sea Gulls received one of the five possible
first-place votes as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own
team. Two-time defending ACFC champions Wesley College took the top
spot as the Wolverines garnered four first-place votes.
The maroon and gold finished last year with a 6-5 overall record
and a 2-2 mark in conference. The Sea Gulls' 21-3 loss to SUNY
Brockport on September 9 was later forfeited by the Golden Eagles
after the '06 season was over. Salisbury won its second straight
ECAC Bowl in 2006 with a 15-9 win over Delaware Valley on the road.
The Gulls ended the year ranked first in the ACFC in rushing
offense (217.5 yards per game) and second in scoring (22.9 points
per game) and rushing defense (94 yards per game).
Salisbury opens its season on Saturday, September 1 at home against
Albright College. The home opener will be the first game on the new
A-Turf field at Sea Gull Stadium. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
Salisbury will meet Wesley on October 27 on the road in Dover,
