INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 13 Salisbury University
football team will make its sixth appearance in the NCAA Division
III championship as the field of 32 was announced on Sunday morning
by the selection committee. The Sea Gulls are the fifth-seed in the
Washington & Jefferson bracket.
The maroon and gold will play Centennial Conference champions
Muhlenberg College (10-0) in the first round of the playoffs on
Saturday, November 17, at Noon.
The Sea Gulls (9-1) have made four straight postseason
appearances, including two Eastern College Athletic Conference bowl
championships the past two seasons. SU has been to the NCAA
tournament three-times in Coach Sherman Wood's
tenure at his Alma Mater since 1999. The other two years were 2002
and 2004 where the Sea Gulls lost in the opening round.
Atlantic Central Football Conference foe Wesley College was
awarded the No. 2 seed in the same region and it will host
Hampden-Syndey College in the first round. This is the first time
the ACFC has had two teams make the NCAA postseason in the same
year.
The farthest the Sea Gulls have ever gone in the NCAA tournament
was in 1986 when they were national finalists. SU is 5-5 overall in
the NCAA tournament and sport a 4-2 mark when on the road.
