Acker drafted by Team Tennessee of the All American Football League

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Former Salisbury University football standout Kyle Acker was drafted by Team Tennessee of the All American Football League (AAFL) over the weekend in the supplemental draft. Acker was selected in the third round by Team Tennessee.

The AAFL begins play this spring as a minor league football six-team league. Teams are based in college football hotbeds such as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee and Texas. Players in the AAFL must have earned their college degrees, exhausted their eligibility and been evaluated by league coaches after attending an AAFL combine to be eligible.

Acker is one of three tight ends listed on the Team Tennessee Web site. Teams in the AAFL will bring 60 players to training camp and will have 46 players on their game-day rosters.

Acker played two seasons (2002, '03) for the Sea Gulls where he was named a D3football.com second team All-American in '03 when he made 18 receptions for 205 yards and scored two touchdowns. Acker signed a free-agent contract with the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League in April 2004 but did not make the final roster later that season.

The league's 10-game season opens April 12 with some Friday night games but most games will be played on Saturday. Tennessee opens up against Michigan at home on April 12 at Neyland Stadium on the University of Tennessee campus.
