Valentino named ACFC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic Central Football Conference announced its players of the week from this past weekend's action and Salisbury University punter Alesandro Valentino earned Co-Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

The sophomore made seven punts for 291 yards (41.6 yards average) in the Sea Gulls' 20-13 loss to Wesley College last Saturday on the road. The Cherry Hill, N.J., native dropped five punts inside the 21-yard line and blasted a 61-yard punt in the fourth quarter, both season highs for the Gulls. Valentino's first two punts of the game, both in the first quarter, pinned the Wolverines on their own 2-yard line.

Valentino shares the award with Wesley's Larry Beavers, who had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Salisbury.

Senior Jamar Garner, who rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown, was named honorable mention ACFC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Ryan Hesnan, who made a team-high 10 tackles, garnered honorable mention ACFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Sea Gulls have had a total of nine players earn ACFC Player of the Week honors since the beginning of the season.
