Garner repeats as ACFC Offensive Player of the Week, Ross takes Rookie honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic Central Football Conference named its weekly Players of the Week for September 29 and Salisbury University senior Jamar Garner earned his second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award and freshman Chris Ross became the first Sea Gull to garner Rookie of the Week honors this season.

Salisbury, who is off to its best start since 2004, ran for 387 yards and scored a season-high 62 points against the Apprentice School. Garner was the team's leading rusher for a second straight week as he registered his third consecutive multi-touchdown game with a 10 carry, 105-yard effort.

Ross recorded two tackles for loss for a combined negative four yards which included one of SU's three sacks on the afternoon.

Junior Jarrell Chandler was named honorable mention Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and sophomore Valdase Morris was named honorable mention Special Teams Player of the Week. This is Morris' second honorable mention selection, first on special teams. Morris had 211 all-purpose yards on Saturday which was 15 shy of matching the total output by the Shipbuilders.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, October 6, as they travel to Beaver Falls, Pa., to face Geneva College at 6 p.m.
