Garner named ACFC Offensive Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Jamar Garner continued the trend of Sea Gulls being recognized by the Atlantic Central Football Conference as the senior co-captain was named Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Delaware Valley. Salisbury University has earned one of the four ACFC awards through the first four weeks this season.

The Frederick, Md., native ran for a game-high 127 yards on just nine carries to help SU improve to 4-0 on the season with a 36-16 win over DVC. Garner was all the offense Salisbury needed on its game changing drive in the third quarter. He carried the ball twice for 80 yards to give SU a 17-14 lead they would not relinquish. He also scored on a 12-yard run in the final minute of play against the Aggies.

Garner joins Ronnie Curley as the two Sea Gulls to be recognized as ACFC Offensive Players of the Week. Curley garnered the award in Week One against Albright College.

Junior Ryan Hesnan was named Honorable Mention Defensive Player of the Week. Hesnan finished the contest with nine tackles, two for loss, one interception and one pass breakup.

The Sea Gulls return to action on Family Day Weekend (September 29) as they host the Apprentice School in ACFC action at 1 p.m.
