Geisert named ACFC Special Teams Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Salisbury University sophomore punter Andrew Geisert was honored by the Atlantic Central Football Conference on Monday as the ACFC Special Teams Player of the Week for September 15.

The White Plains, Md., native recorded six punts for a total of 209 yards (34.8 yards per attempt average) in SU's 35-21 win over No. 20 Christopher Newport University on the road last Saturday. Geisert also pinned two punts inside the 20-yardline to keep the Gulls ahead in the field position game. He also booted a long punt of 50 yards. 

Senior defensive lineman Joey Galloway was named Defense Honorable Mention Player of the Week and sophomore slot back Valdase Morris was named Offense Honorable Mention Player of the Week. Galloway finished last Saturday's game with six tackles (four for a loss of 17 yards), two sacks as he disrupted the Captain backfield all game. The Pasadena, Md., native now has 20 tackles and four sacks on the season. Morris rushed for a team-high 104 yards on only seven carries for an average of just under 15 yards per carry with two scores. The Salisbury, Md., native has now rushed 14 times on the year for a total of 146 yards (10.6 yards per carry average).

Geisert now joins senior kicker Brendan Kincaid and junior quarterback Ronnie Curley as the three Sea Gulls to be honored by the ACFC this season. Kincaid was named ACFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week Two (September 8) and Curley was the ACFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week One (September 1).

The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, September 22, as they host Delaware Valley College at 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
