NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Jarrell Chandler became the
10th Salisbury University football player recognized by the
Atlantic Central Football Conference as the junior defensive
lineman earned his first conference player of the week award for
his defensive performance in SU's 35-14 win over Frostburg State
University in the ninth annual Regents Cup game this past Saturday
afternoon at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Chandler has been named honorable mention ACFC Defensive Player
of the Week three times this year and is the first Sea Gull to earn
the defensive player of the week.
The Salisbury, Md., native recorded a game-high four tackles for
loss and forced three fumbles to lead the defense. He finished the
game with eight total tackles.
Junior wide receiver Kevin Tillage was named
honorable mention offensive player of the week. Tillage hauled in
two passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns and was named the Mike
McGlinchey Most Outstanding Player against FSU.
Sophomore Valdase Morris earned his third
honorable mention special teams player of the week award. Morris
had two kickoff returns for 73 yards with a long return of 43
yards.
The Sea Gulls earned a Pool B berth into the NCAA Division III
championship and will travel to Allentown, Pa., to face Muhlenberg
College in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, November
17, at Noon.
