Doug Fleetwood, now in his 10th season as head coach of the Salisbury University baseball team, has added to the rich tradition of the program by taking the Sea Gulls to nine straight NCAA Tournaments which includes two NCAA South Regional titles and two trips to the NCAA Division III World Series. In addition, Fleetwood has guided his teams to seven Capital Athletic Conference championships and recorded at least 30-wins in eight of his first nine seasons. Through his first nine seasons, Fleetwood has accumulated a combined record of 308-93-6 (.757). He has also won the CAC Coach of the Year award eight times.

The Sea Gulls put together another strong season under the guidance of Fleetwood as the Sea Gulls finished 38-8. The highlight of the season came on April 16th when the Sea Gulls defeated University of Mary Washington 7-3 in the CAC Tournament as  Fleetwood recorded his 300th career victory. Fleetwood boasts one of the best winning percentages among active Division III coaches at 77 percent The Sea Gulls went on to win the CAC tournament championship for the fourth consecutive season and hosted the NCAA South Regional at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury. Senior pitcher Eric Willey, junior first baseman Mike Celenza and sophomore outfielder Andrew Miller were named American Baseball Coaches Association All-Americans, the most All-American honors in one season in SU program history.

In 2008, Fleetwood guided the Sea Gulls to one of their best seasons in program history. Salisbury won a school record 41 games, which included a 35-game winning streak. The streak was the best in the nation until the maroon and gold dropped a game to University of Mary Washington in the CAC tournament. The Gulls (41-4) went onto win their third straight conference title and earn the top-seed in the South Regional. SU was one game away from making it's third-ever College World Series appearance. Under Fleetwood's watch, Salisbury had two All-Americans in pitcher Eric Willey and senior third baseman Justin Arminger. For the seventh time in the past eight seasons, Fleetwood was honored as CAC Coach of the Year. He was also named the ABCA South Region Coach of the Year.

In 2007, the Sea Gulls went 33-10 under the tutlege of Fleetwood as the Gulls repeated CAC champions and continued the streak of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances to seven (2001-present). This was the sixth time in seven seasons that the Sea Gulls recorded 30 wins. Senior outfielder Andrew Jensen became the third Sea Gull under Fleetwood to earn All-American honors, ninth overall in the program.

In 2006, Fleetwood led the Sea Gulls to an overall record of 37-10 and the program's sixth CAC crown in the past 11 seasons. The '06 Gulls advanced to the program's seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament and tied a school record with 37 wins. Salisbury had nine players selected to the All-CAC team and Fleetwood earned his fifth conference coach of the year award.

In his inaugural campaign as head coach in 2001, the Sea Gulls finished 33-13 and earned the school's first trip to the NCAA Division III World Series as they finished the year ranked No. 4 by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The '01 season also saw the Sea Gulls win the CAC title as Fleetwood was named CAC Coach of the Year and College Coach of the Year by the Maryland State Baseball Association.

Over the next three years Fleetwood elevated the program to new heights as he added two more CAC championships and three conference Coach of the Year awards. Salisbury finished with a 30-13-3 record in '02, 31-13-3 record in '03 and a school record 37-13 record in '04.

In 2004, the Sea Gulls capped their season with the school's second appearance in the Division III World Series and a No. 7 ranking by the ABCA.

Before becoming head coach, Fleetwood served two seasons as an assistant coach with the Sea Gulls with his primary duties as the team's hitting coach. Since Fleetwood has been on the staff, Salisbury has had 63 players earn All-CAC honors, 30 players receive All-South Region status and eight players earned All-American selections.

A 1972 graduate of Salisbury, Fleetwood's baseball background includes 12 successful years as the head coach at Cambridge-South Dorchester (MD) High School where he won the '78 state title and advanced to 11 state regional playoffs as he compiled a 171-63-1 record. As a respected baseball teacher and evaluator of talent, he also worked as a scout for the Baltimore Orioles for several years.

Fleetwood also enjoyed an extremely successful football coaching career at C-SD as he won three state championships and was recognized for his accomplishments by being inducted into the Maryland High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in '03.

Along with being the head baseball coach, Fleetwood also serves as the associate head coach-offense of the Salisbury football team. While serving with the football team, the Salisbury offense had the top-ranked rushing offense in Division III in 2008.

Fleetwood has a son, Ryan, daughter, Brooke, and currently resides in Salisbury, MD with his wife Debbie.
