Friday's Schedule

No. 4-seeded Frostburg and No. 6-seeded York will square off in game one at 9 a.m., on Friday. The loser of that contest will go on to play top-seeded Salisbury at 12:30 p.m., while the winner of game one will take on Salisbury beginning at 4 p.m., to complete the day's action.

How We Got Here

The Sea Gulls (28-10) went 15-3 in CAC play to earn the No. 1 seed in the CAC tournament, earning them the right to host for as long as they remain in the tournament. Salisbury opened up conference play with a loss to No. 2 Christopher Newport before splitting a doubleheader against Southern Virginia University. They then went 14-1 the rest of the way in league play.

How They Got Here

The Bobcats (23-12) finished in the fourth spot in the standings, going 9-9 in league play in 2018. Frostburg closed the regular season with a 15-14 win over York that ultimately decided the seeding of each team. Despite the loss to the Bobcats to close league play, the Spartans (19-16-1) locked up the final postseason spot finishing sixth in the standings with a 9-9 conference record. The two teams also faced off back on April 18, with the Spartans defeating the Bobcats 18-7.

Season Series

Salisbury went 3-1 against its two visitors this weekend, having swept its doubleheader at home against Frostburg, while splitting with York on the road. Against the Spartans on April 21, the Sea Gulls dropped game one of the Saturday doubleheader, 15-2, before bouncing back in game two with a 5-2 victory. The second game entered the ninth inning tied at 2-2, but a late three-run rally, including a Matt Padeway single and Justin Meekins double that each drove in a run apiece, helped cap off the victory.

The Bobcats came to Salisbury on March 31, with the Sea Gulls earning the doubleheader sweep, 14-4 and 12-5. Starting pitchers Austin Heenan and Connor Reeves both had impressive outings against the then No. 11-ranked team in the country, With Heenan tallying 10 strikeouts over seven innings in game one, and Reeves striking out 11 batters over 5 2/3 innings in game two.

Home Sweet Home

Salisbury has made good use of the brand new Sea Gull Baseball Stadium, playing 27 of its 38 games at home in 2018. The Sea Gulls went 20-7 in those games, including a nine-game home win streak from March 27 to April 22.

In the CAC tournament, Salisbury has gone 44-10 at home since 1999. Its last home tournament loss came in 2012 in the second round to Frostburg, 9-7.

Up Next

If all three teams go 1-1 on Friday, they will all return on Saturday, with Frostburg and York playing at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will move on to play Salisbury beginning at 2 p.m.

If one team wins two of its Friday contests, it will play the team that went 1-1 at 11 a.m. If the 1-1 team defeats the 2-0 team in the early game, those two teams will play again beginning at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship series next weekend.
