No. 19 Sea Gulls fall to Blue Jays

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 19 Salisbury University baseball team fell to Johns Hopkins University on Sunday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium, 7-5.

As part of Salisbury's Senior Day, each senior was recognized for his contributions prior to the start of the game.

The Sea Gulls (25-9) found themselves down a run early but bounced back in the second inning to score two of their own and take a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice bunt by Jay Perry helped put two runners in scoring position before a single up the middle by Will Gutekunst drove both runners home.

A Scott Ardoin single through the left side in the bottom of the third inning scored Justin Meekins, tying the game at 3-3 after the Blue Jays (23-11) scored two of their own in the top half.

Following the sixth inning, the Sea Gulls found themselves down once again, 6-4. Another Blue Jay run scored in the ninth to push Salisbury's deficit to three heading into its final three outs.

Colby Dean sparked life into the home dugout when he belted a solo home run to start the bottom of the ninth inning, but three straight fly outs followed to end the attempt at a comeback.

The team will travel to No. 2 Rowan University on Monday, April 23. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
