Baseball opens 2018 season at No. 18 in preseason rankings

SALISBURY, Md. – The organization released its 2018 Top 25 preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon and Salisbury University baseball earned the No. 18 ranking in the nation to begin the 2018 season. The Sea Gulls finished the 2017 season ranked at No. 14.

Salisbury finished the 2017 season with a 35-11 record that included its 14th Capital Athletic Conference title. The team advanced to the NCAA tournament for the seventh straight year and 23rd time in program history, going 4-2 in the NCAA South Regional, but fell just short of earning a College World Series berth with a loss to Roanoke College.

The State University of New York at Cortland leads the preseason poll with 10 of the possible 25 first-place votes. California Lutheran University garnered 13 votes while Washington and Jefferson College picked up one vote. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the University of Massachusetts Boston round out the top five.

The Sea Gulls will face off against No. 1 Cortland St. on February 17 and 18 at home.

The team opens its season on February 10 against Gwynedd Mercy University at 1 p.m. at home.
