Baseball up to No. 12 in both and ABCA polls

SALISBURY, Md. - The organizations and the American Baseball Coaches Association released their week 9 Top 25 polls Tuesday afternoon. Salisbury University baseball was recognized by both and the ABCA as it earned the No. 12 ranking in each poll.

The Sea Gulls turned in an impressive week capturing their 14th Capital Athletic Conference Championship defeating the University of Mary Washington 21-0 on Saturday, April 22. The maroon and gold dominated the CAC tournament scoring an unprecedented 82 runs while allowing a grand total of 17 runs against. Salisbury scored 20 or more runs in three of its four playoff games while scoring a tournament high 25 runs in its 25-10 win over Wesley on April 21. The Sea Gulls also became the first team to repeat as CAC champions since they did it back in 2012-2014.

Shenandoah University returned as the top team in the nation in both polls this week boasting a record of 31-3. LeGrange College earned the No. 2 ranking in both polls as well as it garners a record of 38-4. In the poll Birmingham-Southern College moved up one spot to No.3 in the nation while University of Texas at Tyler returned to the top five coming in at No. 4. The College of Wooster makes it first appearance of the season this week in the top five rounding out the group at No. 5.

The ABCA had a slightly different final three teams in the top five as Texas-Tyler came in at No. 3 this week. The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater fell from No. 1 last week to No. 4 this week while Birmingham-Southern rounded out the top five coming in up one spot from last week to No. 5 from No. 6.

Salisbury returns to action tomorrow, April 26 when it travels to the Catholic University of America. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
