SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University baseball team has earned the number one seed in the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. The Sea Gulls will host the number six seeded Eagles of the University of Mary Washington on Tuesday, April 18 with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

How we got here
The maroon and gold finished the regular season with an overall record of 26-8 and a record of 17-1 in the CAC to earn the top seed. On Saturday, April 15, Salisbury swept the Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania by scores of 14-8 in game one and 20-2 in game two. As a team the Sea Gulls cranked out 35 total hits including six doubles and eight home runs. Jay Perry led the way for Salisbury going 5-for-7, including a double and two home runs, from the plate in both games with four RBI and four runs scored.
How they got here
University of Mary Washington finished the regular season with a 17-17 overall record and a record of 8-10 in the CAC. The Eagles completed the regular season with a sweep of Frostburg State University with two walk off wins. Mary Washington defeated Frostburg St. 3-2 in game one, coming back from a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth, and then 8-7 in game two.
Last time we met
These two teams met exactly a month ago to the day back on March 18 at Mary Washington. The Sea Gulls got the better of the Eagles that afternoon winning by scores of 7-1 and 19-5. Jack Barry led the Salisbury offense that afternoon going 5-for-8 from the plate with five RBI and a run scored. As a team the maroon and gold totaled 26 runs, 27 hits, and committed only one error.
Scouting the Eagles
The Eagles enter the playoffs having scored 208 runs this season, a batting average of .318, an on-base percentage of .372, and a slugging percentage of .405. Those numbers rank eighth and seventh respectively in the conference. Mary Washington is led by Stephen Johnston who has posted team-highs in hits (43), RBI (35), and batting average (.350).
The winner will play again on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. against the loser of the Wesley College and York College of Pennsylvania game. The loser of the Salisbury Mary Washington game will play at 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning against the loser of the Marymount (Va.) University and Christopher Newport University game.
