Baseball ranked No. 7 in first poll

MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University baseball team held its spot within the top 10 of the 2016 Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25, coming in at No. 7 in the country, the organization announced.

The Sea Gulls have begun their season 2-2 and are coming off of a double-header sweep of Arcadia University on Saturday, earning 406 points in the poll. Salisbury defeated Arcadia 7-6 in the first game of the twin bill, before taking an 8-5 win in the second game.

The top five saw some movement from the preseason poll, but the top-three spots remained the same. No. 1 State University of New York at Cortland earned 625 points and all 25 first-place votes to remain in the top spot and is followed by No. 2 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (554 points) and No. 3 Emory University (553 points). No. 4 Trinity (Texas) University (531 points) and No. 5 Birmingham-Southern College (477 points) both moved up into the top five from Nos. 7 and 8, respectively.

The Sea Gulls continue their season later today, March 1, hosting Washington (Md.) College at the SU Baseball Field; the first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
