Baseball holds top-five spots in both polls

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University baseball team comes in at a top-five spot in the American Baseball Coaches' Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III Baseball Poll and the Top 25 poll, the organizations announced.

In the first ABCA poll since the preseason, the Sea Gulls moved up one spot to No. 5, after starting the season 5-0 in games through Sunday, March 15. Salisbury earned 358 points in the poll, finishing one point ahead of No. 6 Trinity (Texas) University.

The Sea Gulls earned 549 points in the poll to keep a hold on the No. 4 spot in the country.

Both polls agreed on the No. 1 team in the country, with University of Wisconsin-Whitewater taking the top spot in both polls with 472 points and 10 first-place votes in the ABCA poll and 588 points and 14 first-place votes in the rankings.

The polls found the same teams in the final four spots, while differing slightly on the positioning. The ABCA poll rounded out the top five with No. 2 State University of New York at Cortland (450 points and two first-place votes), No. 3 University of St. Thomas (446 points), and No. 4 Birmingham-Southern College (427 points and four first-place votes).

The poll held No. 2 St. Thomas (583 points and six first-place votes) and No. 3 SUNY Cortland (574 points and two first-place votes), while No. 5 Birmingham-Southern moved up two spots with 532 points and three first-place votes.

Salisbury returns to the field on Wednesday, March 18 in a single-game Capital Athletic Conference matchup with Christopher Newport University at the SU Baseball Field; the first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
