Two Sea Gulls receive Preseason All-American honors

SALISBURY, Md. – recently released its preseason All-American teams, and the Salisbury University baseball team had two players honored as All-Americans.

Senior outfielder Kyle Hayman was named on the Preseason All-American second team, and senior pitcher Brett Collacchi earned an honorable mention nod.

Hayman was first on the team in several offensive categories last season, leading the team in hits (80), runs (56) and at bats on the year (188). Hayman ended the season with a batting average of .416, an on base percentage of .495 and a slugging percentage of .511. The Wilmington, Delaware native was also a force to be reckoned with once he was on base, stealing 28 bases on the year, a team high. While performing well offensively, Hayman was also an anchor in the outfield for the Sea Gulls, notching 84 putouts and boasting a.988 fielding percentage. Hayman was selected to the All-Region first team last year and was also named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference first team.

While Hayman was a stalwart on the offensive side, Collacchi was a dominant force on the mound. Collacchi started and pitched in 15 games for SU, recording a 12-2 record and leading the team in strikeouts with 59. The Bear, Delaware native struck out 5.61 batters per nine innings and flaunted a 2.57 ERA. In the fielding department, Collacchi assisted on 21 outs and tallied four putouts. Like Hayman, Collacchi was also named to the All-Region first team and the All-CAC first team for his efforts last season.

Salisbury will start its season on Saturday, February 7 at the SU Baseball Field when it takes on Gwynedd Mercy University at 1 p.m.
