Baseball team entrenched at No. 7 in polls headed into postseason play

MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University baseball team now sits at No. 7 in both the and American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball polls, the organizations announced Tuesday.

The Sea Gulls (33-7) remained in the seventh spot in the poll, with 455 points.

The same five schools remained in the top five this week but with a bit of shuffling. Webster University held its place atop the polls with 17 first-place votes and 617 points.

Linfield College jumped up a spot to No. 2 this week, garnering four first-place votes and 587 points. Linfield traded places with University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, which were awarded the remaining four first-place votes and sit nine points out of second place.

Concordia University Chicago remained in the No. 4 slot, with 547 points, with the State University of New York at Cortland rounding out the top five again this week. The Red Dragons were awarded 512 points.

Salisbury is joined by two institutions from its NCAA regional tournament bracket in the rankings this week, Case Western Reserve University and host Marietta College. Case Western Reserve checked in at No. 20, while Marietta is four spots behind.

The Sea Gulls jumped two spots to check in at No. 7 in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll, getting 367 points this week.

The top five in the ABCA/College Baseball poll remains intact from last week. Linfield remains in the top position of the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll this week, and were awarded 13 first-place votes and 477 points. Webster sits second, 15 points behind Linfield, and garnered the remaining three first-place votes.

UW-Whitewater is third in this poll as well, with 446 points. Trinity (Texas) University is at No. 4, taking 420 points.

California Lutheran University came in at No. 5, six points behind Trinity.

Case Reserve and Marietta are also ranked in this poll as well; Case at No. 20 and Marietta at No. 25.

The Sea Gulls will open play in the Marietta, Ohio regional tomorrow, taking on John Carroll University. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
