YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday and Salisbury University was honored with two first-time awards winners. Junior Jordan Gowe and sophomore Connor Shockley picked up their first career honors as Gowe was named the league's Player of the Week and Shockley the Pitcher of the Week.
Gowe had three hits in each of Salisbury's two wins last week. He began the week with a three-hit performance in Salisbury's 5-1 win against Gallaudet University, scoring twice. The Easton, Md., native was 3-for-5, scoring the game-tying run in the second inning and added the first insurance run in the top of the eighth.
In the Sea Gulls' 7-0 win against Stevenson University, on Sunday, Gowe was 3-for-3, driving in three runs. He drove in Salisbury's second run, in the first inning, on a sacrifice fly and brought home the team's final two runs on a double in the seventh.
Shockley earned the win against Stevenson, as he went seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out six. The Salisbury, Md., native improved to 7-0 on the season with the victory.
Salisbury takes on Johns Hopkins University this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
