SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University baseball team will be back in action on Wednesday in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Sea Gulls, the No. 2 seed, will host fifth-seeded Wesley College at the SU Baseball Field. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

How we got here
Salisbury earned the second seed by going 11-5 in conference play and 23-7 overall. The Sea Gulls wrapped up conference play this past Wednesday with a 4-2 win over Marymount (Va.) University. Sophomore Connor Shockley picked up the win on the mound, going seven innings and let up two runs on four hits. The Salisbury, Md., native fanned 10 Saints hitters during his outing.
How they got here
The Wolverines finished the season with the fifth-best conference record at 9-7 and are 15-13 so far this year. Wesley was swept on Saturday by third-seed Frostburg State University, 10-3 in game one and 8-6 in game two.
The Sea Gulls hold a 40-10-1 record all-time against the Wolverines. Salisbury has won six of the last eight meetings, including a season split this season. At the SU Baseball Field, Salisbury is 21-6 against Wesley.
The last time we met
The Sea Gulls earned a season-series split on April 3 in Dover, Del., with an 8-1 win. Salisbury jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two and 3-0 lead after three innings of play. Juniors Austin Barefoot and Jordan Gowe, and senior Quinn Griffith each had two hits in the contest. Sophomore Alex Lipman, Barefoot and senior Johnny Schiotis each drove in a pair of runs. Shockley picked up the win, going seven innings. The lefty allowed one run on seven hits, striking out five while walking a batter.
The Sea Gulls come into the CAC tournament riding a season-best six-game winning streak. Over that stretch, freshman Pete Grasso leads Salisbury with a .520 average, and has eight RBIs and five runs scored. Senior Bill Root is hitting .318 and has scored a team-high eight runs. Junior Kyle Hayman is second on the team with a .409 average and has scored five runs. Along with Grasso and Hayman, freshman Tom LaBriola has crossed the plate five times, while seniors Ken O'Neill and Schiotis have scored seven and six times, respectively. Shockley and junior Brett Collacchi each are 2-0 over that span, while junior Kyle Hamby has closed out three of those games for the save.
Since losing to the Sea Gulls on April 3, Wesley has gone 2-4 coming into Tuesday's contest. Trevor Mears has started each of Wesley's 28 contests this season and leads the team with a .404 average and has 17 RBIs. Cory Smith leads the team with 20 RBIs and is second on the team with a .369 average. Matt Domian, Connor Gobright and Eric Speidel are tied for second on the squad with 19 RBIs.
Both teams will advance to the weekend in the CAC double-elimination tournament in York, Pa.
