TUCSON, Ariz. – The Salisbury University baseball team will enter the 2012 season with a top 20 national ranking as the Sea Gulls are No. 17 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll.
Salisbury received 219 points in the poll, ahead of The College of St. Scholastica (218), Carthage College (214), Tufts University (211), Southern Maine University (208), Johns Hopkins University (205), Birmingham Southern College (203), Piedmont College (200), Coe College (195), Adrian College (193), Rowan University (190), the University of Texas-Tyler (188), the University of St. Thomas (186) and Illinois Wesleyan (183).
Marietta College earned the No. 1 spot with 270 points.
Salisbury opened 2011 at No. 21 in the College Baseball Newspaper poll and finished the season at No. 7 in the country.
SU (2011: 34-14) advanced to the third NCAA Division III College World Series in school history last season after making its 12th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
