Trio of Gulls named to ECAC South All-Star baseball team

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference recently announced its regional all-star teams and three members of the 2011 Salisbury University baseball team collected ECAC All-South honors. Seniors Brian Green and Chris Greiner and freshman Bill Root were all selected to the All-South Second Team.

Greiner was one of the top pitchers in the region, posting a 10-4 record during the 2011 season with a 2.95 ERA while striking out 103 batters. The Baltimore, Md., native set program records with 113 innings pitched as well as the 103 punch outs.

Green was one of Salisbury's top offensive threats during the 2011 season, batting .371 with 33 runs batted in, 14 doubles and four home runs. Each number ranked in the top three on the team in each category.

Root, one of just four freshmen named to the South All-Star Team, is one of the fastest players in program history. As well as playing a tremendous center field for the Gulls, he also batted a team-high .379 to go with 27 stolen bases (only being caught three times).

The awards are the latest of many for the trio. All three were named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference team, with Root earning Rookie of the Year honors. Green and Greiner were each named the ABCA's All-South Region Team while Greiner was named the South Region's pitcher of the Year and a third-team All-American.
