Salisbury completes season sweep of Gallaudet with doubleheader wins
SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University baseball team completed its season sweep of Gallaudet University with a pair of wins in Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Sea Gulls won the games 17-0 and 9-0, respectively, as the doubleheader marked the last regular season conference meetings between Salisbury and Gallaudet (0-6, 0-5 CAC); the Bison will be moving to the North Eastern Athletic Conference next season.
Junior Brian Green (Salisbury, Md.) led Salisbury (8-1, 6-0 CAC) in the first game with a huge day at the plate. Green had four hits in four at-bats with two runs and seven RBI. One of his hits was a grand slam, his first home run of the season, in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Senior Chad Wolfe (Thurmont, Md.) and junior Will Evans (Salisbury, Md.) drove in the other Sea Gull runs with three and two RBI, respectively. Wolfe scored four runs, as well. Eleven different Sea Gulls crossed the plate in the game to total the team's 17 runs.
Junior Kyle Judson (Gaithersburg, Md.) picked up his first win of the season pitching four innings with six strikeouts in his first appearance of the year. Freshman Andrew Levy (Hampstead, Md.) came in to pitch the final three innings earning the first save of his collegiate career.
In the second game, Wolfe continued his big day with two hits, one being a home run, in three at-bats. He drove in three runs along with scoring three more. Senior Trevor Cobb (Hagerstown, Md.) drove in two runs while Evans, senior Ryan Smith (Waldorf, Md.), senior Tim Kellinger (Knoxville, Md.) and junior Andrew Miller (Schwenksville, Pa.) each had one RBI.
Junior Nathan Young (Washington Twp, N.J.) started the game, pitching four innings to earn his first win of the season. He struck out five batters in the win. Junior Mark Peterson (Reisterstown, Md.), junior Kevin Story (Damascus, Md.) and Wolfe each pitched one scoreless inning of relief to close out the game.
Salisbury will travel to the University of Mary Washington for its next game on March 10, before returning home to take on Albertus Magnus at the SU Baseball Field on Friday, March 12. Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
