Salisbury ranked No. 9 in D3baseball.com Preseason Top 25

MINNEAPOLIS - The 2009 D3baseball.com Preseason Top 25 was released by the Web site on Thursday and the Salisbury University baseball team was ranked No. 9. This is the second preseason Division III college baseball poll released this season, as the Sea Gulls held the No. 11 spot in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll.

SUNY Cortland claimed the No. 1 ranking in the poll as the Red Dragons collected 12 first-place votes. No. 2 Chapman notched four first-place votes while No. 3 Trinity (Conn.) had seven first-place votes. No. 4 UW-Whitewater and No. 5 Johns Hopkins each posted one first-place vote to round out the top five.

Two opponents the Sea Gulls will face this season were ranked in the top five of the D3baseball.com poll while four other SU opponents received votes.

The Sea Gulls will be the first team on the schedule for No. 1 SUNY Cortland as they host the Red Dragons on February 20. Salisbury will square off in a rematch of last season's South Regional final when the Sea Gulls travel to No. 5 JHU on April 28.

SU will play seven games against four teams that received votes in the poll. The maroon and gold are scheduled to play Christopher Newport University, Montclair State University, North Carolina Wesleyan and Virginia Wesleyan College. Salisbury opens the season with a single game at Virginia Wesleyan (February 7) and a doubleheader at N.C. Wesleyan (February 8). SU will also host VWC on March 26. The Sea Gulls will play CNU for a two-game set (April 24-25) and SU will end its regular-season at home against Montclair State (May 6).
