Judson selected to play in 2009 Mid-Atlantic Classic
BALTIMORE, Md. - The Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League announced its rosters for the 2009 Mid-Atlantic All-Star Classic and Salisbury University sophomore pitcher Kyle Judson was named to the Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Star team.
The game will take place this Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md. The game will feature all-stars from the Cal Ripken Sr. League and the Valley Baseball League out of Virginia.
The game will be televised live by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), with broadcasters Johnny Holiday and former Oriole pitcher Dave Johnson calling the action. A Home Run Derby will be played at 5:30 featuring four players from each league.
Judson has had a strong season for his team, the College Park Bombers, as he posted a 2-0 record with a 1.78 ERA in the first half of the season. The Gaithersburg, Md., native made six appearances, threw one complete game, pitched 25.1 innings, recorded 15 strikeouts and limited opposing hitters to a .157 batting average. The right-hander was recently named Cal Ripken, Sr. League Pitcher of the Week in leading the Bombers to two victories.
Judson had a breakout sophomore season for the Sea Gulls in 2009 as he went 9-0 with an ERA of 3.16. Judson pitched 79.2 innings, struck out 71 batters and limited opposing batters to a .233 batting average. For his work Judson was named First-Team All-Capital Athletic Conference.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Stars will be managed by Tim Norris, manager of Youse's Orioles. The Orioles won the Cal Ripken, Sr. League Championship in 2008. Mr. Norris will be assisted by Sal Colangelo, manager of the Bethesda Big Train, Mark Palmerino, manager of the Maryland Redbirds, PJ Mitchell, manager of the Herndon Braves, and Brandon Berlett, assistant coach for Youse's Orioles.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. League is comprised of eight teams: the Alexandria Aces, the Bethesda Big Train, the College Park Bombers, the Herndon Braves, the Maryland Redbirds, the Rockville Express, the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts, and Youse's Orioles.
