Collins tabbed as CAC Baseball Player of the Week
YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards and Salisbury University senior Cody Collins was named the baseball recipient for the week of March 30. The award marks the first for the SU baseball team this spring.
Collins batted .444 (8-for-14) and knocked in seven RBIs as he led the No. 19 Sea Gulls to a 4-1 record last week. The Millsboro, Del., product also scored nine runs, had two doubles and clubbed two home runs in the five games. He led SU last week with a .889 slugging percentage and also stole one base. In SU's loss to St. Mary's (Md.) College last Wednesday, he collected two hits and scored one run. Collins then picked up one hit, one walk, and one run in SU's doubleheader sweep of St. Mary's on Saturday. He went 5-for-9 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs in Salisbury's doubleheader sweep of No. 12 York (Pa.) College on Sunday. Collins was also solid defensively in the sweep over York as he made six putouts and had one assist. For the season, he is second on the team in doubles (eight) and is third in both home runs (three) and total bases (51). Collins is also among the team leaders in batting average (.356) and slugging percentage (.567).
Salisbury returns to action Wednesday, April 1, against Gallaudet University at 3:30 p.m. in a CAC contest at Sea Gull Field. The Gulls will then play host to Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday, April 2, at 3:30 p.m. in a make-up game from March 26.
