Sea Gulls ranked No. 11 in final ABCA coaches' poll
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The final American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III poll was released and Salisbury University finished the year ranked No. 11. The Sea Gulls (38-8) amassed 157 total points. The Gulls are ranked No. 10 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 media poll.
University of St. Thomas (Minn.), who won the 2009 NCAA Division III national championship, garnered eight first-place votes and 240 points as the Tommies (41-13) moved from No. 5 to No. 1. The College of Wooster (43-11) moved from No. 3 to No. 2 as the Fighting Scotts received 232 points. Carthage (Wis.) College (38-9) moved up one position from No. 4 to No. 3 as the Red Men collected 222 points. Chapman University (32-17) jumped five spots from No. 9 to No. 4 as the Panthers received 210 points. Kean University (39-11) rounds out the top five as the Cougars collected 197 points.
Salisbury was ranked No. 3 in the nation prior to hosting the Salisbury, Md. Regional, but fell to No. 11 in the ABCA coaches' poll prior to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship held in Appleton, Wis., from May 22-26.
The Sea Gulls bring back a strong core for the 2010 season which includes 2009 All-Americans Mike Celenza and Andrew Miller. The squad returns six-of-nine starters to the lineup and several prominent pitchers who shined in '09.
