ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The No.
6 Salisbury University baseball had its doubleheader with St.
Mary's (Md.) College suspended in the top of the third inning of
game one due to persistent rainfall that increased through the two
and one half innings of play.
Salisbury's (26-1, 12-0 CAC) Capital Athletic Conference
showdown will be made up at some point this week (April 6-13) but a
date has not yet been selected as the Gulls have conference games
on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and the Seahawks play on Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturday.
Before the game was suspended, Salisbury owned a 5-0 advantage
with a pair of runs in the first, two more in the second and one in
the third prior to the delay.
With bases loaded and two outs, the Sea Gulls scored two runs in
the first as junior Randy Boyle and senior
Justin Armiger crossed the plate on a Seahawk
error.
Boyle and Armiger caused trouble for SMC in the second inning as
well when Boyle's two-out single to right field scored junior
Jordan Crystal and opened the door for Armiger to
get an RBI of his own, as he brought Boyle home on a single up the
middle.
After picking up a leadoff walk and advancing on a wild pitch,
senior catcher Tyler Riley scored SU's fifth run
in the third on a second Seahawk error. The game was called
with senior Brian Camper at the plate and freshman
Will Evans on third following a single to left
field, a stolen base, and the Seahawk error.
For Salisbury, junior right-hander Eric Willey
was on the mound and had pitched two hitless innings with one
strikeout and one hit batter. For the Seahawks senior right-hander
Ryan D'Antuono started off allowing five runs (two earned) on six
hits with three strikeouts and four walks in two innings.
When a date is settled upon the game will resume in the top of
the third inning of play, with Salisbury leading 5-0.
Up next for SU is a 2:30 p.m. game against CAC foe Wesley
College tomorrow (Monday, April 7) at Sea Gull Field.
