SU baseball places eight on the All-CAC teams, Fleetwood wins again
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The No. 9 Salisbury
University baseball team, the 2007 CAC champions, placed eight
players on the 2007 all-conference team. Coach Doug Fleetwood won
his sixth CAC Coach of the Year award.
The Sea Gulls placed six players on the first team which included
three position players, two pitchers and one designated hitter.
Seniors Andrew Jensen and Alex
Vitale were selected at outfield and third base,
respectively. Jensen leads the team in eight offensive categories
that include: batting average (.451), runs (50), hits (69), doubles
(16), triples (5), RBIs (51), total bases (104) and slugging
percentage (.680). Vitale is batting .360 with 45 RBIs and
team-highs in home runs (six) and stolen bases (12).
Two pitchers from the nation's No. 1 pitching staff were selected
to the first team. Senior left-hander Bryan
Brainer leads the starting staff with a 1.83 ERA to go
along with a 7-2 record with a team-high 69 strikeouts. Fellow
seven-game winner junior Ryan Bennick (7-1) has a
2.67 ERA with 64 strikeouts and one complete game. Both Sea Gulls
have pitched 64 innings.
Rounding out the first team is junior designated hitter
Justin Armiger and freshman first baseman
Mike Celenza. Armiger is hitting .419 with four
home runs, four triples and a .493 on-base percentage. Celenza is
hitting .353 with 14 doubles and only four errors with a .989
fielding percentage.
Junior Mark Bostwick was voted to the second team
at second base. Bostwick leads SU infielders with a .379 batting
average to go along with 55 hits and nine stolen bases. Senior
hurler Dan Oleynik was the lone Sea Gull pitcher
on the second team with a 6-2 record with a 2.31 ERA in 58 innings
of work.
